After living in Utah for (eek!) nearly seven years, I have come to treasure lush, green trees. Growing up in Michigan, I missed seeing green while attending BYU, but beautiful Memphis has brought it all back. Maples, elms and oaks line the streets and paths, creating homes for millions of squirrels and shade during my jogging adventures. I also think a lawn with a thick, aged tree (perfect for climbing, of course) is almost necessary for the proper care of a child's imagination. Ah, I will take the green of trees over the mountains any day. And don't get me started on autumn-- trees alive with reds, oranges and yellows are my absolute favorite!

Memphis Monday: BEAUTIFUL TREES

I agree with you on the beautiful trees, but not with the mountains!!! I miss the mountains so much! The green is nice this time of year!

I totally agree with you. I would take green over the mountains any day. The place I've always thought as being ideal to live would be Colorado because you have the green and the mountains all together. I'll probably never live there, but it's nice to think and dream about.
I totally agree I miss the green of WA being here in Utah. Oh by the way Todd got into his master's program at BYU so we will be here for 2 more years.

I can't believe you are dissing on Utah's lack of trees! Have you never noticed all the beautiful green pine trees that last year-round, or gone up into the canyons when the leaves start to change? Living practically in the desert, I am thankful for ANY trees. I do have to agree with you on climbing trees being neccessary for childhood growth, and I have to say the maple tree in Grandma's front yard is one of the best. I still like to climb it every once in awhile when we are there.
I can't wait to live in a place with lush green trees and grass. Ahh...it will be wonderful. And you are right, autumn will be so beautiful.

We had trees #1 through #9. We numbered them so we could plan various races around our yard. It was sad when my parents told us most of them would have to be cut down because of that disease that killed off the ash trees. Our yard has never looked nearly as nice since.
