crazy/beautiful

Do any of you remember that ridiculous Kirsten Dunst movie called crazy/beautiful? Jason and I used to make fun of it all the time because, first, it was a dumb movie, and second, it had a really dumb name to match. We used to tell each other, "You are so crazy slash beautiful" and think it was so hilarious. Well, as I sat down to write this post, it occurred to me that my life has become "crazy slash beautiful." Let me explain...

Since moving here to Memphis, we've had two robberies in our apartment complex. We were told about the first one, an armed robbery, by a note stuck on our door by the management. The second robbery happened at 10 o'clock in the morning (that's right, 10 a.m.!!) and my friend witnessed it. She was the one to notify the police. CRAZY.
I have a wonderful husband. He takes Addie when he comes home to give me a break, changes diapers, and fixes me dinner on Sundays. He has gorgeous eyes (check out the picture below) and is so hilarious. You ought to see him dance. I am so blessed to be married to such a great man. BEAUTIFUL.

I am the mother of a soon-to-be 4 month old. CRAZY.
Even though I want to pull my hair out at times, especially when Addie cries and cries for no reason whatsoever, her smiles make it all worth it. I'm scared of the responsibility of teaching her right from wrong, to serve others, to make good friends, and to make good decisions, but I know that the Lord will bless me when the time comes as long as I strive to be the best mother I can be. Motherhood is the most rewarding role a woman can fulfill. I truly believe that. BEAUTIFUL.We are in debt up to our ears because of school and don't have any family close by, but these trials are making our family stronger. This whole experience, being a young family in the MidSouth, is crazy/beautiful. (See? Now I've turned that stupid, stupid title into something worthwhile!)

I realize this post is pretty cheesy, but I've just been so grateful lately to have the wonderful life I have and am so thankful to Heavenly Father for my blessings. Yay for us!!

Angel Food Ministries

Have you heard about Angel Food Ministries? I hadn't, but we're going to order food from it this next month and I thought I'd let all of you know about it.

It's a non-profit organization that started out as an outreach program for those struggling. The food is now not only for those in low-income situations, but open for everyone! Everyone qualifies. It's a place where you can purchase restaurant-quality food at an affordable price. You'll be surprised at the good food they offer! In TN the food packages cost $28, but you get tons of food, mostly meat, which is usually the most expensive anyhow. Go to http://www.angelfoodministries.com/ and click on "Host Sites" to see if it is your area. You can then click on "Menus" to see what they're offering that month. You have to order the food online, or by phone, by a certain date each month and then pick up your order at one of their "host sites" on the date specified. A small price to pay for the savings! It looks like there is one location in UT, so that might not work out for many of you, but there are a lot of locations in MI, TX and IL for those of you there!

Anyhow, we just heard about it from some friends (they love the steak!) and I'm exicted to start buying their food!

Finish this sentence

I'm curious. What are you going to be for Halloween? Addie is going to be a pudgy ducky (we have the cutest costume) and I am trying to convince Jason that we should go as Mr. and Mrs. Hair again this year (he just wears an outrageously huge wig and I crimp and rat my hair).

So, in your comment, please finish this sentence.

For Halloween, I am going to be...

great news!

Adelyn rolled over today for the first time! I put her on her stomach for her daily dose of "tummy time" (which she normally hates) and she lifted her head up, looked at me with eyes that said "here I go!" and flipped over onto her back. It was great. At first I thought it was one of those random things, so I put her back on her stomach and she did it again and again. After 3 times though, tummy time was over and the crying began. But still, it was so fun to see! She even did it for Jason when he got home from school. Awww...our little one is growing up. **sniff sniff**

You Rock!

Just wanted to send out a special thanks for those who leave comments to our blogs, they're always fun to read! You guys ROCK!! Keep the comments coming and keep rock n' roll alive within!

I also wanted to share a quick little morsel of knowledge from optometry school: Dr. Newman, one of my professors, told us what to do if your eye pops out! He said "PUT IT BACK IN!" Whatever it takes, even if you have to use a pencil to wedge it in, just get it back in as fast as you can. The funny thing is he was serious.

There you go, now you know...and knowing is half the battle!

Roy Junior

Some of you may be wondering why we haven't posted pictures of Roy Junior, the beta fish. Well, if you can believe it, the Wal-Mart out here doesn't carry fish. Maybe all Wal-Mart's have got out of the fish business, I don't know, but it takes too much effort to look up and find a pet store, all for a beta.

Maybe we'll make that our mission on an upcoming date--to find Roy Junior. Yeah, that could be fun. We shall see...

Adelyn's new tricks

For hours of entertainment, try grabbing your toes! It's the latest thing! Adelyn has discovered her toes, and finds so much enjoyment from them. She gets frustrated, though, if she can't hold on to them for long!
Kurt and Heather sent Addie some gifts in the mail. Even though she's still too young to truly enjoy the stuffed rainbow bunny, we're not! It's perfect for keeping in her binky while she sleeps!

This is sunburned Mom and sleeping Addie watching General Conference on the internet from bed. It was nice, much more comfy than a pew or couch!

And yes, I painted her toenails. Aren't they adorable?

A New White Coat

I'm so happy about my soon to be profession! I knew this would be a profession I would love, but going to school and actually learning what I'm going to be doing for the rest of my life gets me so much more excited for my future in the career of optometry! I love SCO (Southern College of Optometry, for those who don't know), and it seems like I have already learned so much, even though I've only been there for 5 weeks now! We've been learning how to do retinoscopy, or how to find a patient's eye correction by shining a light in their eye--I think it's pretty incredible how the eye works! It's exciting to know how much can be found out about the body, just by looking into a patient's eye. There are many systemic diseases that can be found with an eye exam!

I'm happy to be at SCO, I have so many great professors and the school excels in so many areas--I'm excited to know I'm getting a great education, and learning everything I need to for my future career. We had our White Coat Ceremony tonight, where all of us first year students received our new white coats. It made it seem like we're almost done, even though I still have a little less than 4 years left! Oh well, I love SCO and all I'm learning, even though I'm super busy--it is so much better than undergrad!

Daddy and Addie at the White Coat Ceremony!

Jason's Personal Apology to the World!

I just wanted to start out by saying, I'm sorry about Jana's actions and thoughts. Her feelings for the Dallas Cowboys are completely inappropriate and uncalled for. I have been trying to convince her of her flawed views, but I must admit it's nice she finally appreciates football! On a lighter note: My team, the Green Bay Packers are doing incredible this season! I am so happy for their 4-0 record right now--Green Bay is going to the Super Bowl this season, you have a Jason guarantee on that one! I am also very excited for Brett Favre and his record breaking streaks he is having (forget about the most career interceptions record that may be coming up)! He can finally retire happily. I'd like to take a moment of silence at this time...

...Thank You Brett Favre for making this one great season so far, and to all those who support the Packers!

my pick, my crush

Much to my brother-in-law's dismay, I have chosen The Dallas Cowboys as my NFL team. They are going to the SuperBowl, I can feel it. Why have I chosen them, you ask? For several reasons, listed here:

1. They win all their games. Duh.

2. I like their outfits.

3. Tony Romo is amazing at completing impossible passes.

4. Everything is better in Texas.

5. Their offense is brilliant. Terrell Owens is my favorite (besides Tony Romo, of course).

6. Jason doesn't like them, so it makes watching their games more fun.

7. Tony Romo is amazing at improvising impossible plays.

8. Watching the Cowboys was the first time I enjoyed football.

9. Wade Phillips, their head coach, makes me laugh. He's a funny, pudgy old man, and I like him.

10. TONY ROMO IS MY HERO.

BIG NEWS! I have a friend!

Wow, it's been awhile. Over a week, that must mean I've been keeping busy without piddling away my time on the computer! Yay for me!

The big news? I've made a real friend! We've been going walking during the day together (I got quite sunburned yesterday and now have two little matching blisters on my feet) and I'm so happy to have someone to talk to. I think it's been helping Jason out, too, because now I'm not jumping down his throat with mindless blabber as soon as he walks in the door.

Here are the latest in Addie pictures, enjoy!

Addie threw up all over Jason right before we went out. If you look closely, we were trying to get a good picture of the spit up all down his arm. Yum, yum, baby fun!

I had to get a picture of Addie in her stylish sandals. Check these out!

Jason and Addie, getting ready for a night out on the town and some good ole Memphis BBQ.
I took this picture this morning (can you believe she's already 13 weeks?). She smiles all the time now, so I thought it would be fun to get a big grin and post it. Adelyn is smarter now, though, and is interested in everything. She's very alert and takes in so much. Well, when I pulled out the camera, she couldn't stop staring at it. I tried to be sneaky about it and "hide" it behind some toys, but she wouldn't be fooled. She concentrated on the camera no matter where I moved it and wouldn't smile because she was focusing so much. I took the picture and thought it turned out pretty funny!
